Things to Know Before You Scuba Dive
Best Time To Visit:
Andaman and Nicobar Island is an all-season paradise. However, it is best to visit the island between October and May, when the underwater visibility is at its clearest. If you love turtles, manta rays, and stonefish, then December and January are definitely the best times to spot them. If you are lucky, you can also see turtles nesting as well during these months.
Age Restrictions:
The age limitation for any diving scuba diving courses in Andaman is strictly 10 years and above. However, there is no upper limit.
Health Requirements:
Even though there are no major restrictions, it is important to carry medical clearance in case of major ailments like heart disease, respiratory conditions, or ear damage.
Swimming Ability:
Swimming is not a mandated necessity for scuba diving at Havelock Island. However, divers are taught all the basic water skills and signs before entering the dive site.
Scuba Training:
Time: It is mandatory to undergo training before any dive. Govind Nagar Beach, rightly known as one of the most stunning and cleanest beaches in Asia, is also where scuba enthusiasts are schooled. The training lasts anywhere between 10- 15 minutes and includes briefing, signs to be used, and underwater breathing techniques using scuba gears.
Duration Of Scuba Diving:
Depending on the package selected, the dive can last anywhere between 30 minutes to 45 minutes per session.

Max. Depth Allowed:
Havelock Island has a visibility range of 10 meters to 40 meters. Maximum depth allowed for fun dive is up to 12 meters (around 40 feet). Novices and beginners can safely dive up to this range. Experienced divers can dive deeper, provided the instructors are aware of it in advance.

Neptune Memorial Reef
Diving depth – Up to 12 metres
Distance – 10 km by boat from Havelock
Perfectly calm for scuba diving beginners and snorkeling enthusiasts, this spot has an abundance of sea Anemones, Clownfish, Humpback Parrotfish, Lionfish, and stunning coral gardens.


Nemo Reef
Diving depth – Up to 12 metres
Distance – Close to the north side Havelock shoreline
Rocky shores, dense mangroves, and serene water make Nemo Reef an interesting topography to explore. Suitable for beginners, chances are, you will be swimming alongside Rabbitfish, Barracudas, Surgeons, Seahorses, Butterflyfish, Chubs and more.
Tribe Gate
Diving depth – Up to 20 meters
Distance – 7 km by boat from Havelock
If you love adventure, this is a spot for you. Underwater canyons and crevices line the entire terrain. Stingrays and Reef Sharks, Dugong and Octopuses are common sightings here.


Red Pillar
Diving depth – Up to 15 meters

Located near Peel Island, the shallow calm water here is perfect for scuba diving beginners. Dolphin sighting is also a possibility here if you are lucky. Besides the usual clownfish, Tiger fish, angelfish, and sea horses, there are sharks and stingrays lazily roaming around, completely comfortable with the humans swimming around in the water.
Seduction point
Diving depth – Up to 18 metres
Distance – 7 km by boat from Havelock
A rocky seabed, this diving spot is home to moral eels, turtles, barrel corals, and many vibrantly colorful fish and flora. The serene turquoise water is perfectly suitable for snorkeling and scuba diving for beginners and experts alike.


Barracuda City
Diving depth – Up to 30 metres
Distance – 9 km by boat from Havelock
It is one of the rare dive sites known for stronger currents. Suited for experienced divers, the name in itself says that this is the home ground of the Barracudas that jump out randomly from amidst the coral crevices.
Turtle Beach
Diving depth – Up to 15 meters
Distance – 10 min boat ride from Havelock

When to Go Scuba Diving in Havelock?
October to May :
The water temperature lies between 28 to 30 degrees Celsius, and there is minimal wind interference, making it perfectly calm and clear to snorkel, swim, or scuba dive.
June to September :
Due to the monsoon, the temperature falls to 24 degrees. The constant rainfall and strong winds hinder the safety and visibility of the crew and divers alike. Hence, any water activities are avoided during these months.
